La Ferme des Artistes

Located merely 11km from the ski slopes of Praz de Lys/Sommand and within reach of the extensive Grand Massif and Portes du Soleil ski areas, winter sports enthusiasts will find endless excitement. Outside the ski season, you can enjoy cycling, hiking, and exploring the breathtaking scenery and rich history of this area. Mieussy was the scene of the first paraglide flight, and it's something you can still enjoy, with a paragliding school just a short drive away. Other activities include climbing, rafting, kayaking, fishing and horse-riding.

The village of Mieussy has everything you need for your stay - enjoy fresh cheese, milk and local produce from the dairy, local meat and charcuterie from the butcher and wonderful chocolates from the chocolatier! There are also grocery stores, a bakery and a micro-brewery.

About the property ...

You'll get a sense of the history of this wonderful former farm building as soon as you step through the door. The unique wood-clad hall, decorated with old skis, skates and sledges leads into a beautiful ski room with benches, storage and a heated boot rack.

There are four bedrooms on this floor, the first of which is a bright and spacious master suite, with a large en suite bathroom with two washbasins, a walk-in shower, a bath and a WC. The remaining three bedrooms are all smaller doubles, which share a shower room and separate WC. However, all are individually decorated, making the most of the building's original wooden features, and all of them open on to the balcony which runs across the front of the property.

There's also a charming playroom for young children with games, soft toys, books and a desk.

The main living area is on the ground floor. The cosy seating area with a sofa, chairs and bench seating is filled with light thanks to the glass sliding doors which open on to the furnished terrace, where you can relax in the hot tub and enjoy the stunning views of Mont Blanc. When it's time to eat, head inside to the bright dining area where you can all sit together at the large table. In good weather, there's another table on the terrace for relaxed barbecues.

At the other end of the property is the fully-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, a table and doors to the garden. There's also a sofa in front of a wonderful woodburning stove / oven which is the perfect place for cosy conversations. The fifth bedroom, with two single beds, is also on this floor, along with a bathroom and separated WC.

Older children will love the top floor of the house. Tucked under the eaves is a relaxed space with two TV areas - perhaps one for gaming and one for viewing - surrounded by sofas and floor cushions. There's also a small gym with weights, an exercise bike and floor mats.

Outside, La Ferme Des Artistes has a large garden, a sunny terrace with great views from the hot tub and plenty of parking.

About the area ...

The charming farming village of Mieussy is a great base for guests who want to explore the French Alps, at any time of year.

Those visiting in the winter will find local skiing in Praz de Lys/Sommand, but if you're prepared to travel a little further, you can explore Samoens in the vast Grand Massif as well as resorts in the Portes du Soleil. There's also a wealth of Nordic skiing trails through Alpine pastures and forests in the Giffre valley.

For a change from skiing, why not try a trek with sleigh dogs, snowshoeing or fat biking?

Outside the ski season, there are numerous hiking and biking trails to discover through forests, mountain pastures and traditional villages. The Giffre river is the scene of some great kayaking, rafting and other watersports, but if you'd rather take life at a slower pace, there's fishing at the Lac d'Anthon.

Mieussy is the birthplace of paragliding, so while you're here, why not give it a go? There's a paragliding school in the village, so you won't have to go far.

This rural area is famous for its cheeses and local produce - every day farmers take their milk to the village's dairy, where it is made in to Reblochon and Tomme de Savoie. Visitors can see the cheese being made and pick up some to take home in the dairy's shop.

The village of Samoens, said to be the most beautiful village in Haute Savoie, is just a 25-minute drive from La Ferme des Artistes. This traditional farming village is full of character with beautiful stone buildings and a long tradition of farming. Enjoy a stroll through the market and lunch in the picturesque square before visiting the botanical garden.
